NEW openGear fibre optic cards from Chromatec (09-08)

To further extend its Chromatec range of openGear modules, Michael Stevens & Partners are pleased to introduce a range of cards to support fibre optic distribution.

These allow the transmission of HD (3Gb and1.5Gb) and SD serial digital signals, with separate dual transmitter and receiver cards plus a single transmit / receive card.
Depending on the card and laser wavelength chosen, signals can be carried up to 100km.

The range also includes 2-way and 4-way optical splitter / combiners, couplers and switches, plus multiplexer / de-multiplexer cards to combine two, five or nine laser wavelengths into one fibre and divide them at the destination.

To add even greater flexibility to the range, three further cards allow HD signals to be transmitted over SD using DIRAC PRO processing by NuMedia.

The power of the openGear card format is the flexibility and efficiency that it offers system designers. By extending this into our range of Chromatec products we are pleased to offer a growing selection of building blocks.

twinBOX - the small, versatile openGear card frame from Chromatec (08-08)

The number of partners signed up to the openGear standard is steadily growing – and so is the range of cards and functionality.

Offering a versatile new mounting system for openGear cards, Chromatec is pleased to launch the twinBOX card frame. Each 1U half-rack width twinBOX holds two openGear cards. For fixed use, two frames can be mounted side by side in a 19” rack or one frame can be installed with an extra-wide mounting ear to fill the remaining space.

When two units are connected there is the option of sharing power supplies to provide redundancy. In this configuration, the units can be used completely independently or one openGear network card can be shared between the two frames.

Until today there was no rack frame which allows openGear cards to be used away from traditional apparatus racks. So additionally, for portable applications, the twinBOX can be powered by the internal mains supply or, via the optional battery clip, using standard Anton Bauer batteries. For ease of handling in inhospitable environments, the already rugged construction can be supplemented by a carrying handle and corner protectors.
